Norwood-Young American Rehearsal

7/25/07 - The Govenaires Drum and Bugle corps will hold an open house on Saturday, August 4th, from 5 to 6 pm, at the Central High School football field in Norwood-Young America!

The Govenaires have been in existence since 1927, making them the oldest competing senior drum and bugle corps in the world! In 2006, the Govenaires earned a World Championship Class A title at the Drum Corps Associates Championships! In 2007, the Govenaires are celebrating their 80th anniversary, and are building upon their extraordinary success of the previous season.

On Saturday, August 4th, the corps will be rehearsing in Norwood-Young America, and will hold an open house from 5:00 to 6:00 pm for anyone to stop by. The corps will be at the football field of Central High School, in Norwood. You can watch the Govenaires perform their entire show, talk to corps members and staff, and purchase souvenirs and discounted tickets to the Drum Corps Expo, a full drum and bugle corps competition held in St. Peter. This open house is free, so bring the whole family and watch the World Champion Govenaires in action!

Govies Enjoy a Weekend Off

7/16/07 - After 8 solid weekends of rehearsals/parades/performances, members of the Govenaires enjoyed a weekend off. What do you do when your life revolves around drum corps and you have a free weekend? Well below are some ways our members spent their time off:
  • Visited St. Paul
  • Biking in South Minneapolis
  • Attended a wedding
  • House repairs
  • Spent 13 hours in a car for a 20 minute gig
  • Saw Harry Potter at the IMAX
  • Corps truck maintenance
  • Went to a cabin in WI
  • Spent time with friends and family
  • Overall, I would say everyone enjoyed their weekend off and will hopefully return recharged for the next part of the season.
