Let's have a drum roll for the Govenaires Drum and Bugle Corps! The small music organization from St. Peter, Minn., became Class A world champions during competition over the Labor Day weekend in Rochester, N.Y.

The corps marched its way to the top after dominating preliminary competition on Saturday, performing in a torrential downpour sent by Tropical Storm Ernesto. On Sunday, the sun came out as the corps became World Champions in Drum Corps, the premier competitive organization for all-age corps.

It was the first world title for the Govenaires, which formed in 1927 and today is believed to be the oldest competing all-age drum and bugle corps in the world, Govenaires spokeswoman Emily Stark said Monday.

The corps won first place Sunday with a score of 78.6 and also won other awards, including best color guard. Members Aaron Harwell and Angie Braunwarth won first in individual and ensemble competition in the brass duet category.

New Feature at the Bulletin Board

12/7/05 - Continuing with the reconstruction of Govies Online, we have a calendar back in operation.  Check it out HERE.  This one is an upgrade from the previous version.  The calendar is fully integrated with the Bulletin Board, and will allow members of the corps to add in events, as well as having official events and scheduling to be seen by everyone who needs info.  Check out the continuing progress of The Govenaires Bulletin Board and keep an eye on the calendar for the next Govenaires event.

Govenaires Website Rebuild has begun.

12/2/05 - As many of you must have noticed, the Govenaires' Webpage took a definitive turn to the worse sometime during Labor Day Weekend of 2005.  Foul things were afoot in the servers that housed the pages, and we suffered a terrible setback, resulting in the complete loss of all info stored on the main server, and the backup server.  Well, we've been slowly picking up the pieces, trying to get back to a usable page and I'm happy to say things are starting to shape up.  It'll be a while yet before it's all back, and the webpage itself may change designs again, but the basics are getting here.  The Bulletin Board system that had become a staple of many Govies' days is now back and better than ever, and the webpage starts back as of now, with a slightly altered look, while not reworking the world.  So it's been an adventure, and we thank you all for your support during our transition.  With a new host (huge thanks to all the guys at smarp) and more reliable service, I'm sure we'll be happy here for years to come.  So keep checking back, and let us know what you think.
