2015 Drum Corps Expo returns to St. Peter

The bright sights and loud sounds of drum and bugle corps will return to St. Peter on Aug. 22. Hosted at St. Peter High School's Floyd B. Johnson Field, the 2015 Drum Corps Expo will feature the top all-age marching groups from the midwest.

The Govenaires Drum and Bugle Corps will present the show, which will start at 2 p.m. Gates open at 1:30 p.m.

Other groups competing at Drum Corps Expo will be Minnesota Brass Inc., Chops Inc. and the Racine Kilties. Appearing in exhibition will be the St. Peter High School Marching Band and the Bass Brand Brass Band.

Adult admission is $6 for advance tickets and $8 for tickets during the show day. Admission is free for children 12 and under, as well as area high school band students. Advance tickets can be purchased in St. Peter at Patrick's On Third, Family Fresh Market, St. Peter Food Co-op and Deli or the St. Peter Chamber of Commerce.

Before they compete locally at Drum Corps Expo, the Govenaires will spend Friday, Aug. 21 performing at the Sounds of Minnesota competition, hosted by Minnesota Brass Inc. The show will be held at St. Thomas Academy in Mendota Heights. It will be the Govenaires’ first competitive performance of 2015 in the Drum Corps Associates (DCA) circuit.

For over a month, the corps has performed at Drum Corps International (DCI) shows, including the DCI Minnesota regional competition at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. 

This season leads up to the DCA Championships, which take place Labor Day weekend in Rochester, New York.

As part of the DCA circuit, the Govenaires Drum and Bugle Corps is a ten-time finalist and three-time champion in Class A (2006, 2009 and 2011). Besides competitive success, the corps takes pride in its unique brand of performance.

Their 2015 production is entitled “Outlaw,” which includes music from the “Kill Bill,” “The Magnificent Seven” and “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” movie soundtracks.
