Since 1927

Who we are

The Govenaires is a competitive performing arts organization from St. Peter, Minnesota. They have been entertaining crowds across the country since 1927 as the oldest continuously competing drum and bugle corps in North America.

The corps actively competes in the Drum Corps Associates (DCA) circuit. The corps has enjoyed success in Class A, appearing ten times as a finalist at the DCA National Championships since 2004, and capturing the Class A title in 2006, 2009, and 2011.

Origins of the Govenaires name

The Govenaires, originally named the St. Peter Legion Corps, were founded in 1927. In 1944, the corps changed it's name to the St. Peter Drum and Bugle Corps. The corps changed it's name again to the Vikings Drum and Bugle Corps in 1961, although the name was short lived when the newly formed professional football team from Minnesota adopted the same name. Not wanting to give the impression that the drum corps was affiliated with the Minnesota Vikings, the corps again changed it's name, this time to the Govenaires, in honor of the four Minnesota Governors who hailed from St. Peter.
